WELCOME TO MY BRAIN

My work is a personal adventure. I rarely begin with an idea in mind or a plan. I almost always start with a few quick lines and go from there. Eventually the piece takes form to me and shapes itself into something more familiar, an eye or maybe a foot. Everything begins to fall and flow into place in a very organic manner. The end product could be anything. The art to me was the journey to make nothing into something. I guess it is my way of making peace with all the thoughts in my head and the busy world around me. It doesn’t always have to make sense. Sometimes it just is.

ABOUT ME

Charlie Lee was born and raised in Minot, North Dakota. Throughout his youth, Charlie was highly encouraged by his mother Margaret to create art. He spent many summers taking children’s art courses at the Taube Museum of Art in Minot. He now teaches similar summer classes at the Taube. Charlie graduated from Minot High School in 2008 and has been slowly working on an art degree ever since. Charle’s work is a chaotic whirl of colors, patterns and bizarre creatures. He enjoys drawing, printmaking and sculpture. Charlie also is avid skateboarder and believes that it can be an equally creative process. Charlie’s art is heavily influenced by early 90’s skateboard graphics, cartoons, and punk rock. When not creating art or working, Charlie is most likely playing music skateboarding or playing with his cat Don Quixote.
